March spring flower bulbs at the school.
Here is an update from the committee on a few things.
- First Dillon Rappalee, a Boy Scout, has taken on the huge project of renovating the courtyard at the gifted center for his Eagle Scout project. He gave a very basic plan, is now working on a very detailed plan, and will submit that to the Boy Scout Council, the committee and Mrs. Gordon for approval. I have copies of them available now if anyone is interested. It does look like by the time he gets the final approval from everyone it may be mid June before he can actually start the work. However, he has said that he would come back before school starts to spruce that area up and to plant some fall annuals to give some color to that area for the new school year! YEAH!
- Nicky from Eden Farms has donated about 75-100 "Priscilla" gladiolus bulbs for us to plant at the school and Carol & Dave Sarginger of Stardreamer Daylilies in Ruckersville http://www.stardreamerdaylilies.com (grandparents to Alec Bowald) have donated 2 flats of mums. The mums and bulbs need to go in as soon as possible. There is also a great need for weeding, most especially in the bed to the left ogon the parking lot side of the school where we put some of the nandinas in and have container pots. Also, the shrubs in the front of the school need to be pruned severely.
- Mrs. Gordon has no problem with us doing a "Spruce Up" day or days and calling for volunteers for help after school. We could even do some of the smaller tasks in committee groups if anyone is available for even an hour or two at a time during the day.
- In addition, Vidya, the other co-chair stepped down as co-chair as she is having a baby in the near future! Congratulations Vidya & Family! Colleen Williams has offered to fill her place in the mean time and has continued to add plant materials to the nine containers around the school, keeps water jugs near them, and she checks on them often. If you are at the school and notice one of these is drying up please consider taking a moment to use the jug near by that is filled with water and giving it a drink. Here are some photos of two recently planted containers at the entrance.
- If anyone has any easy care perennials or extra annuals that they would like to donate for planting around the school or in the containers, please contact Colleen or myself to arrange this. While you are dividing your plants this Spring, think of the school.
